This Night

this night came after the night we watched the polish wedding
we were up together as we usually were those days
in our own kind of awkward
we called the police

the child kept screaming

this night came before the night I was in your bathtub
searching for my soul
you know

the one you once loved

this night was the same night I tripped over the dustpan
in the kitchen and saw my life
flash before my eyes and in this flash

you were not there

this night I crawled into your bed needing you
knowing that one of my tomorrows would
mark our end but you said

I don’t want to confuse you
